Biking Trails

 

The Scenic Rivers area offers a vast array of beauty and grandeur with its rolling countryside to it hardwood forest. What better way to see the sights and hear the sounds that the area has to offer than on two wheels? The many trails can lead you through the countyside and dense forest even along the rivers and through the streams. The trails offers a number of activity options and is accessible year-round.

Ethel Vance Natural Area is located on the banks of the West Fork Amite River in the extreme southwest portion of the state. Run by the city of Liberty, the seat of Amite County, this park features 10 miles of singletrack trails, popular with mountain biking.

The Mississippi River Trail (MRT)

If you want a real challenge, dare to brave the Mighty Mississippi—or perhaps just the Mississippi River Trail. The Mississippi River Trail (MRT as it's known) is a 200-year-old trail that stretches 3,000 miles through ten states—and from New Orleans to Memphis through Mississippi. The trail is designed for bicycling or walking and traverses the river itself at some points, allowing you to take in the majesty of the continent’s longest river in a way you never thought possible.

Founded in 1965 by the late Sara and Frank Gladney and now managed by the John James Audubon Foundation, the Gloster Arboretum has 400 carefully preserved acres of prime birding habitat.  Aloft among the many magnificent native plant species found in Mississippi such as the beech, magnolias, stewartia and mountain laurel, visitors can find many of the native and migrating bird species that call the preserve home.
